Memorial Day Address - Mayor Dirk Burton of West Jordan City
We invite you to join us on Monday, May 26th at 12:30PM at our Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery location to enjoy our annual Utah Pipe Band Concert. This year we also have the opportunity to host Mayor Dirk Burton of West Jordan City as we honor and celebrate those who sacrificed their lives in service to our country, as well as all of our loved ones who have passed on.

Dirk Burton is the current Mayor of the City of West Jordan. Elected in 2020, Mayor Burton had previously served on the city’s council for four years.

Dirk’s passion for politics began with a passion for his small business. Born and raised in Kearns, UT Dirk picked up and moved his life (and his wife) to St. Louis, Missouri in the 1980’s. There, he started his own electrical contractor company: Able Electric. As a new business owner, Dirk knew any help or insight on success was important. He joined the Independent Electrical Contractors of Greater St. Louis, where he later became a board member. When the state of Missouri was considering passing a bill that would greatly impact Dirk’s small business, he knew he needed to make his voice heard. After attending the meeting with lawmakers, Dirk’s comments were taken into consideration and the bill never passed. That meeting ignited his love for local politics. Dirk grew his business in Missouri and taught community education classes for electricians. 11 years passed before Dirk decided to move back to the beehive state and build a new life in West Jordan. Once settled, Dirk quickly became involved in community groups and committees.

Following his roots, Dirk joined the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce, where he helped promote local and small businesses, much like the one he started a decade before. As his love for his community
continued to grow, so did his involvement. In 2016 Dirk became a Council Member for West Jordan’s fourth district. Being a voice for the people and serving his community pushed him to run for Mayor. In January 2020 Dirk became the City’s first strong Mayor. Dirk was appointed to the airport advisory board in 2020, he continues to serve on the Chamber of Commerce, Utah State Electricians Licensing Board, Salt Lake County Council of Governments, Western Growth Coalition, Jordan River Commission and Association of Municipal Councils.

When Dirk is not in a committee meeting or working at City Hall – he is promoting community involvement in local scout groups, spending time with his family, and touring West Jordan neighborhoods on his bike or Segway getting to know the residents he serves.

We would love to see you come celebrate with us. Entrance is free to the public!
