Ailene Gatherum

Our dear mother, Grandma Lene and friend passed away on April 20, 2023.
She was born October 6, 1939, in Denver, Colorado to Dwight William Duke and Florence Inez Shingleton. Ailene married her sweetheart, Bernie Gatherum, September 3, 1983. They were sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1998.
Mom loved her family “the most”. She worked tirelessly to support, care for and serve them. Spring was her favorite time of year as she picked out the flowers that would beautifully adorn her well kept yard; providing the perfect place to relax with a Diet Coke and visit with neighbors. She has had many dear pets through the years, and they kept her company till the very end. During her last few days, she expressed what she felt was most important to her – her Savior Jesus Christ and her family.
She was preceded in death by Bernie (husband), her mom and dad, Susan (sister), and Larry (brother). She is survived by her sister Debbie (Kirby), brothers Randy (Diane), Bill (Cheryl) daughter Kathy, sons: Kelly, Kevin (Debrah), Gregg (Brittney), Rick (Lisa), Keith (Terri), daughters: Tina, Terri, Tamee, many grand and great-grand children.
We would like to thank the Suncrest Hospice Nurses and CNAs. They were all wonderful and treated her with great care. Thank you.
Viewing will be held, Sunday, April 30th from 6-8pm at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 1st, at 11am in the Larkspur Ward Building, 10600 South 949 East in Sandy. There will be a one hour viewing from 9:30-10:30am before the services. Interment will follow at the Murray City Cemetery.
