Albert Fredrick Perschon has gone fishing to that favorite fishing hole in heaven. He passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. He has joined his sweetheart, Elvira, who passed away 6 months earlier.
Albert was born on November 6, 1932, to Walter H. Perschon and Bertha Zaugg in Salt Lake City, UT. He was the third of five children. He went to West High School and worked to support his widowed mother before joining the Army near the end of the Korean War. After his Military service, he was called to serve in the Swiss Austrian Mission, under his uncle, the Mission President, William Perschon. Albert served for 3 years, and one of the highlights was being present for the dedication of the Swiss temple. Upon returning home, he and Elvira Wille got engaged, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 21, 1958.
Albert followed his father’s profession as a painter in the beginning, but decided to study to be an electrician and became a Master Electrician, working for many companies and on many projects. Later, he was a partner in Tri-Western Associates and was a manufacturer’s representative for lights. During his life, he built three homes, and not only did the electrical installation, but he also did most of the work on the homes himself. He was always a very ambitious and hard worker. He did many electrical projects for family and friends, even in his retirement years.
But his real passions were hunting, fishing, boating, traveling, and gardening. Albert and Elvira raised 6 children in Millcreek and Holladay, Utah. While in Midway, he would get away as often as he could with family or friends for a few hours of fishing; some weeks, he went multiple days. He loved to go hunting with his boys and grandsons. He took many people out waterskiing or fishing on his boats. He loved to travel with mom, with family, and with friends. He taught himself how to make crab-traps and loved to fish for crab on the Oregon or Washington Coast. They took many trips to Alaska to see the grandeur of it all, and of course, to fish! Whether it was in the truck and camper or the motorhome, they made many trips from Utah to Mexico, Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Canada, and Alaska. Albert and Elvira drove back east, through the Midwest, and found out that they could live in a motorhome in Wyoming and serve as missionaries assigned to Martin’s Cove. They served there from 2005-2006. Albert really got into the “growing the beard” and dressing in "the period" clothing. He loved helping the rattlesnakes cross the veil.
Albert had a green thumb. He learned about gardening from his uncles, and he could make poor soil into a rich garden plot with a lot of compost and hard work. He was always proud of the yards in the homes he lived in.
Albert was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. He loved serving as a “home teacher,” and held many callings in his different wards. He and Elvira loved serving in the Provo temple. He taught his faith and devotion by example.
If you knew Albert, you would know that he has a quirky sense of humor. He is always teasing someone, his wife, his grandkids, or his great-grandkids. If he says that chocolate cake is terrible or nasty, you know that he really means it is delicious! We will miss your sense of humor and your love of life.
Albert spent a few short years in South Jordon before he and Elvira moved to the Summit Senior Assisted Living, where they spent their last few years.
Albert Perschon is survived by his children, Rodney (Nancy) Perschon, Rosi (Werner) Haidenthaller, Myron (Karma) Perschon, Lucinda (David) Fischer, and Danette (Larry) Horkley. He had 28 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Richard (Kathleen) Perschon, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Elvira, and his youngest daughter, Rochelle. As well as his parents, his siblings, David Perschon, and wife Hazel, Lois Jones, and husband Dean, Mary Joyce Walkenhorst, and husband William (Bill).
