Alec Alexander

Alec Alexander passed away on February 29, 2016.  He was born on March 3, 1938 to Sergei and Anna Khvorostenko.   Alec was born in Terney, Russia, grew up in Kirovograd, Ukraine, and attended university in Moscow, Russia.  He graduated from the Mendeleyev Institute with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1961 and began his career in Moscow.  In 1973 he got his master degree in Chemical Engineering and continued to work in that field.

During his years as a student, he dreamed of coming to the United States.  In 1987, Alec left the Soviet Union, spent time as a refugee in Austria, and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Here he pursued the American dream, attended the University of Utah, and received another degree in Material Science Engineering.

On November 17, 1990, Alec married Alevtina in Salt Lake City.  Together they had one daughter and loyally served one another for over 25 years.

Alec was very passionate about life and absolutely enjoyed every single day.  He enjoyed everything: traveling, hiking, skiing, history, politics, eating good food, classical music, and spending time with his friends and the family.  He was not afraid to try new things or meeting new people.  He was a little bit of the social butterfly. He was passionate about the beauty of the earth and found joy in something every day.  He wanted to partake of every experience that this life had to offer.  Alec was loved by many and admired by all those who were acquainted with him.  He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Alevtina; his children, Masha, Yelena, Andrei, Vladimir, and Natalia; his grandchildren, Katya, Alden, Simon, and Noah, his sister Natasha and nephew Dennis.

There will be a viewing followed by funeral services on March 3, 2016, at Holbrook Mortuary from 12:00pm till 1:00pm, 3251 South 3300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Graveyard services will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, at 1:45pm.

There will be a dinner for family and friends (to celebrate his life) at Arbat Restaurant at 5:00pm that evening, 375 East 3300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
