Allen Reed Schvaneveldt

August 26, 1925 — February 14, 2023

Allen Reed Schvaneveldt, 97, passed away peacefully in the early morning of February 14, 2023 and was reunited with his sweetheart.
Allen was born in Logan Utah to Melvin and Jennie Schvaneveldt on August 26, 1925. He was the oldest of 5 siblings. Growing up during the depression he was tasked with tending the chickens that helped keep the family going through those difficult years. Allen attended schools in the Logan area, attending Utah State University, and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served an LDS mission to Holland shortly after the end of WWII and upon his return was drafted into the Army and assigned to Fort Riley in Kansas. While on a short leave in SLC he met and fell in love with his lifetime companion Shirley Jean Workman. After a whirlwind courtship they were married in the Logan temple on July 31, 1951. Son Paul was born while they were stationed in Ft. Riley, and upon their return to SLC they added four more sons; Mark, Michael, Matthew, and David Bruce. Allen worked long hours in the automobile industries, beginning in the tire business and eventually as a fleet and car salesman. His life was dedicated to providing for his family and a lifetime of boating at Flaming Gorge and Lake Powell (always the captain), fishing, snowmobiling, hunting in the area of Logan Canyon with sons and extended family, and watching his boys grow and flourish. In his retirement years he and Shirley enjoyed various cruises around the world.
He was predeceased by Shirley, his loving wife of 67 years, as well as son Mark, and sisters Jane and Harriett. He is survived by sons Paul, Mike (Sue), Matt (Jill), David Bruce (Jill), as well as brothers Wesley and Noel. In addition, he leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the team at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living for their loving care over these past few months. Special thanks to Hospice Nurse Jaime and Caretaker Ray whom Dad really appreciated.
Services will be held at Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, Saturday February 25, 2023 at 12:00 with a viewing at 11:00 prior to services.
