Allen Dahl Young

Allen Dahl Young - Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and our American Hero - Died July 9,2014. He was born on January 19, 1920 in Salt Lake City to Louie May Dahl and Lawrence Alonzo Young. Allen married Betty June Fisher on November 7, 1942 in Farmington, Utah. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, May 24, 1944. He was a very loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Allen had many talents. He was an accomplished accordion player and owned his own music studio. He attended South High and LDS Business College where he met his wife-to be. Graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters Degree in Arts and Education. He loved camping, boating, fishing and his home in Hanna, Utah. He loved parties and get togethers with family and friends. He was called into the service in 1942 and commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Field Artillery. He received his wings in the U.S. Air Corps. He was in the 339th Fighter Group, 505th Squadron stationed in England. He flew the P-51 Mustang and was shot down on his 57th mission. He was a P.O.W. at Stalag Luft 1. He was the recipient of The Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Medal, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and French Croix De Guerre. He taught school at Highland Park and Jordan Junior. He was Graphics Specialist at the District Office for Salt Lake District. Retired from East High School where he taught drafting and photography. He was a designer of many homes in the Salt Lake Valley and Hawaii.

Allen was an active High Priest in the LDS church, serving in many positions in the ward and stake. He was a member of the Sunday School General Board for the church and also served a Stake Mission.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Scott; parents and two sisters. He is survived by son, Terry (Gail) Young; daughter, Christy (Fred) Van Wagoner; sisters, Marion Wilkinson, Verna Olson; brother, Paul (Jeanne) Young; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of The William E. Christoffersen Utah State Veterans Home. We would also like to thank his many thoughtful ward members, neighbors, and a special thanks to Fred Van Wagoner, Dad's care giver.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 11:30am at the Fortuna Ward, 4407 South Fortuna Way (3695 E.), where friends and family can visit 10:00-11:00am prior to the service. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
