"Granny Stirk"

On the bright and sunny morning of Thursday, January 29, 2009, Alta Margene Kidman Stirk, age 87, passed away peacefully at her Salt Lake home of 50 years after a year-long illness. She was born the youngest of three children on November 4, 1921 in Logan, Utah to Alta Norman and Lyman Kidman. Margene graduated from South High in 1938, attended the U of U and graduated from USU. Margene was a dedicated school teacher, a gifted artist, avid gardener, talented seamstress, and an adventuresome traveler. She enjoyed beauty and the arts in many forms. Margene was a faithful life-long member of the East Millcreek Seventh Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was blessed with wonderful neighbors. Granny Stirk's greatest joy and lasting legacy is her family. She is survived by her son, Reg (Karen)Stirk and daughter Kathy Vernon; grandchildren: Amy(Aaron)Aizad; Gina(Ben)Hunt; Andy(Sara)Vernon; and Heather(Adam)Jensen and great grandchildren: Ava Aizad, Avery and Shawn Hunt, Katie and Micah Vernon and Stuart Jensen. Margene is preceded in death by her parents; brother LaVere Kidman and sister Blanche Penton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the East Mill Creek 7th Ward, 3408 South Celeste Way (3120 East). Friends and family may visit on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at East Mill Creek 7th Ward prior to services. Interment: Holladay Memorial Park. Special thanks to everyone who lovingly cared for Margene during her illness.
