Alyssa Renee Roth

July 30, 1988 — November 2, 2023

Midvale, Utah

Alyssa Renee Roth, born in Colorado Springs, CO on July 30, 1988, died unexpectedly in her sleep on November 2, 2023. Lyssa lived her short life on her terms and with so much love and shared her heart and laughter with everyone.

Lyssa at times struggled to find her way, so it was interesting that her best swimming stroke in competitive swimming was the backstroke. She couldn’t see where she was going with her eyes, but she could sense her way to the end of a pool. She became interested in working with developmentally challenged children in high school and it became a passion that she pursued at SLCC and UVU. Ultimately this led her to an amazing career working in a Pediatric clinic. She loved the children and the people she worked with and always had great stories that she found so fulfilling.

Her favorite place was on a beach with the ocean waves crashing to meet her. We moved from California to Utah in the summer of 2002. A couple years later, she came back from a vacation in California with a surfboard, even though she didn’t know how to surf. Her Subaru had the license plate SURFWGN, and she drove around all that summer with the surfboard strapped to the roof of her car! There would be random Facebook posts from random people with a picture of her and her car all across the Salt Lake valley.

In April of 2014 she found her puppy soulmate, her Papillion, Linus! He became her whole world and the light of her life. His huge personality mirrored hers and together they made everyone laugh and smile. She then had to change her license plate to LUVLINUS. She managed to have very meaningful conversations with Linus, and he has a vocabulary of about 100 words that he understands and responds to. Ask anyone who’s seen it, it’s crazy true!

Lyssa married Austin on 2/22/2022 and walked down the aisle at 4:44pm. She loved their times at Jazz games, Thanksgiving Point, Red Butte Gardens and playing Pokémon. Austin took her to her favorite concert, Chris Stapleton. In their too short time together, they increased their brood to include their cat Odin, and two rabbits, Chip and Echo.

She loved all things turtles, Winnie the Pooh, plaid everywhere, sunflowers, being in or near water, and she preferred to go barefoot over shoes, even in winter. She had a take charge and get it done attitude that seemed at odds with her silly, carefree approach to life.

Lyssa had, “Where the grace of God cannot protect me, the will of God will never lead me,” tattooed many years ago. God has chosen to lead her home and she will be forever missed, deeply loved, and remembered as one of the greatest blessings of our lives.
