Anneke (Ann) Vermy Bahlmann passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026. She was born May 22, 1929, to Hendrik Vermy and Adriaantje Noordhoek in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Anneke endured the occupation of WW II and then had the courage to leave family and friends to immigrate to America in 1950.
She married Dirk Bahlmann in August of that year; later, solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She helped raise their three children, teaching them to appreciate nature, service, and the blessings and freedom of living in America. She understood the importance of education and always encouraged learning. She spoke English, Dutch, French, German, and “a little Russian.” She lived a life of service, quietly going about doing good.
She held many positions in her church, including Cub Scout Den Mother, Ward Chorister, and Relief Society President. She also served a mission in her native Netherlands. She served her country for many years as an Election Judge and acted in a PBS TV series. She is well known among family and friends for her homemade soups and knitting. She was eager to teach others her skills and knitted thousands of hats, socks, scarves, and toys as gifts and donations to Welfare Square. She was loved by all who knew her and reciprocated that love unconditionally. She will be missed.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living and Canyon Home Care and Hospice, especially Paul and Aubrie, for their compassionate care over the past year.
She is survived by her children, John (Susan), Robert (Shirley), and Lucy (Gary); 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and brother Henk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Wessel.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 at the Bengal Heights LDS Church located at 2301 East Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:00 - 10:45 prior to the services. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
