Anna “Anneke” Terpstra Senten

Anneke, was born in Franeker, Friesland, Netherlands to Arendje and Sije Terpstra, on June 22, 1935. During the time in Friesland, WWII broke out and Anneke survived many cruel things during the war. During that time mom's family (Terpsta's) helped 12 jewish families during this terrible time and mom was very proud of that.

After the war, and things were slowly building up, missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints visited the Terpstra family and later they joined the church. Well it was about this time that in order for Holland (Netherland) to survive, the citizens could donate all their possessions to the government then get a ticket to come to the Americas, so mom's family did that and that is how they were able to come around the 1950.

Immigrating to Utah, and getting her citizenship, Anneke met up with a sailor man. Mom was told to be careful of the dutch sailors that they were not good enough. Mom went on a date with this Royal Dutch sailor which became our dad, Harmen C. Senten. A day before they got married dad joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints and a year later married in the Salt Lake Temple and a new family was sealed for “Time and All Eternity” with 2 twin boys, Jeff and Mark. A few years later, mom and dad had daughter born and her name is Inga.

Anneke and Harmen, raised their family primarily in the Sugarhouse area, south Salt Lake, for over 20 years. Anneke has served in many positions in the church, within the Relief Society organization, Young Women's Program, and Primary. Mom also had a beautiful voice and would sing in sacrament meetings and other special occasions with other talented folks that brought wonderful music to many ears that would hear.

There was short time that mom and dad moved to St. George Utah and enjoyed their time there, but later moved back to the Hunter area, just west of West Valley City. For the past 20 years mom and dad have been a member of the Hunter 4th Ward. I have been told that everyone loved Anneke and felt like adopting mom as their own grandmother (Oma) or even their own mother, she was love by many folks in that ward. I personally would like to take a moment to Thank All the wonderful members of the Hunter 4th Ward for watching and caring for mom and dad during their time there. Thank you for the kindness that you have shown to them, especially to mom after dad's passing almost 10 years before.

For the past 15 months or so, my brother Mark had been living with mom. Mark watched over her and took care of her. Taking mom to her doctor's appointments, shopping, getting meds, and other choirs that mom would ask Mark to do. I would like to say what a great job that Mark has done over this period of time taking care of mom. Great Job Mark!!!

Mom suddenly fell ill and it is at this time I was called up to come and help. Mark and I watched mom decline for the past few weeks and we did our best to keep peaceful and safe during this trying time in mom's declining time. Finally on August 22nd, 2026, mom passed away peacefully with Mark and I by her side.

I would also like to thank the Dr. Kathryn Casull, MD at the Granger Medical Center, and their staff for the excellent care for mom. I would like to thank the Symbii Hospice Center and the care that they have provided and Memorial Estates for working with us on mom's final arrangements.

Mom, you are finally out of pain, no more headaches or migraines. Have fun with all your wonderful friends and family there on the other side and until then: God be with you until we meet again.
