In Loving Memory of Anslem “Buzz” Blackie

Anslem Antone Blackie, affectionately known to all as “Buzz,” passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, surrounded by his brothers and sister-in-law at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, at the age of 48.

Born on July 14, 1977, in Craig, Colorado, to Addison and Irene Black, Buzz was the oldest of three brothers and proudly carried his nickname from the movie Home Alone—a name that stuck for life and perfectly captured his fun-loving, unforgettable energy.

Growing up in Montezuma Creek, Utah, Buzz filled every day with laughter, mischief, and love. Whether sledding down rocky hills on garbage-bag cardboard sleds or planning family get-togethers, he was always the one to bring everyone together and make life a little brighter.

A proud graduate of San Juan High School, Class of 1995, Buzz went on to earn his Associate’s Degree from the College of Eastern Utah and later attended the University of Utah to pursue his dream of becoming a weatherman. His early days at Subway became legendary for the “free family sandwich hookups,” and his time working for Express Shuttle and Amazon reflected his caring nature and easygoing charm.

Buzz lived life in full color. He loved to travel, take scenic photos, and collect shot glasses and magnets from every stop along the way. He could often be found cruising State Street, blasting his favorite tunes—Alanis Morissette, Hanson, Coldplay, Oasis, Tom Petty, and The Wallflowers—and soaking up good vibes wherever he went. He was the life of every Halloween and Christmas celebration and turned his July birthday month into a full festival of joy.

Above all, Buzz was the world’s best “Uncle Buzz.” His nephew Kylan was his pride and joy, and his heart overflowed with love for his family, including his brothers Preston and Brian Blackie, sister-in-law Vicky Blackie, and his beloved pups—Rocky, Toby, and Leo.

Buzz had a heart that loved deeply, laughed loudly, and protected fiercely. He celebrated Pride each year with his Amazon family, walked in the parades with pride and confidence, and embodied authenticity everywhere he went. Whether playing Keno, rolling the dice in a friendly game of blackjack, or traveling to his favorite getaway in Seattle, Buzz lived with humor, love, and a sparkle in his eye.

He will be remembered for his laughter, his light, and his endless kindness—a soul who made every room brighter just by being in it.
