Antone Lewis Skanchy, age 85, passed away peacefully October 31, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born July 11, 1926 in Logan, Utah to Antone (Tony) Skanchy and Miriam Ritchie. Lew, as he was known by his many friends and loved ones, graduated from Logan High School. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Submarine Corp. during World War II. After his military service, Lew attended the University of California, Berkeley where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served an LDS mission to the Central Atlantic States following his university graduation.
Upon returning from his mission, Lew pursued graduate studies at Utah State University, where he met his wife, Lucille Corbridge. They were married in the Logan Temple and shared 60 wonderful years together.
Lew started his own engineering firm called Skanchy Engineering Company, and later Mechanical Engineering Systems. During his life he became a certified pilot. He found great joy and satisfaction in serving both his community and his church. He was a member of the Rotary Civic Organization, served as scoutmaster four different times, receiving his Silver Beaver Award. Lew served twice as a bishop and served 15 years as stake patriarch. He often commented about the joy and happiness he experienced as a stake patriarch and especially felt blessed to be able to give patriarchal blessings to all of his grandchildren.
Family was of paramount importance in Lew's life and he took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He seldom missed any athletic or school event of the grandchildren and taught many of them to snow ski, water ski and play tennis. He also was their personal tutor in math and science. All were enriched by his involvement in their lives and he will be greatly missed.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Lucille, and their six children Arlene (Rick) Wyss, Linda (Scott) Howell, Tony (Heidi) Skanchy, Terilyn (Scott) Taylor, Steven (Heather) Skanchy, Jodi (John) Russell; 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister LuJean Fowler; and brothers T. Craig Skanchy, Paul Skanchy, and Bruce Skanchy.
