Arlean May Smith Simmons

October 23, 1927 — April 22, 2009

"Go Jazz!"

Arlean May Smith Simmons was born in SLC, UT to Andrew and Myrtle Smith. She passed away peacefully on April 22, 2009 with her family by her side. She graduated from East High School. Married to William Keith Simmons on February 18, 1949; later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Most important to Arlean were her family and lifelong friends and neighbors. She was devoted to the Utah Jazz, opera, theatre, ballet, art, and lifelong learning.

Arlean treasured the Primary class she taught for over 50 years, and could often be spotted in the stands rooting for young athletes from her family and beyond. She crafted wonderful holidays and birthdays, and delighted others with cards holding one-dollar bills.

Arlean lived life to the fullest and was always on the go. She passed away peacefully on April 22, 2009 at 5 p.m., which had been Dad's birthday and precise time he arrived home from work every night.

Arlean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; her brother, Raymond, and sister, Clarice Huefner. She is survived by her children, Scott (Sue), Kevin (Toni), Patricia (Mark Wheeler); her grandchildren Erin, Heather (Arie), Benjamin (Mary), Emily, Zachary, Nathan (Amanda), Rachel, Sean, Kyle, Ashley, Matthew, Jacob, Bryan, and Samuel; her brother, Melvin, and sister-in-law, Carol Loock.

Friends and family may visit Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
