Arlene Anderson

Jan 12, 1931 — May 29, 2026

Arlene Anderson, born Arlene Elizabeth Anna Kleier, was born and raised in Nebraska on January 12, 1931, and passed away in Colorado on May 29, 2026, at the age of 95.Arlene was the daughter of Herman and Ida Kleier. Her life took her from Nebraska to Utah, and later to Colorado, with family remaining at the heart of each chapter.Arlene’s first husband was Irvin Kroll, the father of her children. They later divorced. In 1965, she married Gust Spetsas, who remained her husband until his death in 1991. She later married Doug Anderson, who preceded her in death in 2007.

As a single mother of six children, Arlene faced difficult times and financial hardship, yet she still found ways to bring joy and unforgettable memories into the lives of her children. During one of the most challenging times in her life, she entered and won an essay contest that awarded her an all-expense-paid trip to Disneyland for herself and all six of her children. It became a treasured family memory and a lasting example of the joy she was able to create, even when life was not easy.

Arlene enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidery. For several years, she owned and operated Spetsas Sportswear, where her creativity and work ethic were clearly reflected. She also loved music, especially Elvis Presley, and enjoyed playing her organ.

Arlene will be remembered as a strong, resilient, kind, loving, and generous woman who was loved and admired by those who knew her. She carried a quiet, personal spirituality throughout her life, and one of her favorite and most meaningful scriptures was Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Arlene is survived by her children, Roberta Chase, Doug Kroll, Mary Kroll, Terry Chatterton, Debbie Kroll, and Randy Kroll; her daughters-in-law, Luz Hernandez Kroll and Sandy Shaffer; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ida Kleier; her brother, Howard Kleier; her sisters, Velma Lisius and Delma Uden; her husband, Doug Anderson; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Kroll; her son-in-law, Randy Chatterton; her grandson, Brian Kroll; and her dear friend, Russell Day.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Arlene’s many caregivers in her later years for the kindness, patience, and care they provided.

Arlene will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
