It is with unfathomable heartbreak and sadness, we announce the passing of Armand Oneil Belanger. On the evening of October 29th 2025, he left this Earth on his own terms at home in Sandy, UT at the age of 78. Our kind, loving, irreplaceable husband, father, brother, uncle and mentor to many will be missed beyond words.
The youngest of four boys, Armand was born on September 18th, 1947 to Albert and Isabelle Belanger in Berlin, NH. As a child, he was known to spend his snowy winter days walking to school uphill both ways, which may explain his future interest in aviation. His unrefuted work ethic and stoic personality was established at a young age with his Mother and three brothers always coming first.
Deeply intellectual, Armand was one of the first in the family to attend college after graduating from Berlin High School. However, in April of 1968, he was drafted into the Vietnam War. After only 9 days of service, he was wounded in action and was awarded a Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge in August of 1970, Armand boarded a freight ship from the United States to Europe, where he hoped to put the war behind him, and create new memories. He did so, traveling aimlessly across Europe in a blue VW bug.
After Armand’s many unmentionable adventures throughout Europe, he returned to the US and ventured west to Salt Lake City in 1972 to ski “The Greatest Snow on Earth”. While working at a local gas station, Armand met his future wife and soulmate, Carol, and never returned east, finding his forever home and new chapter in his life in Salt Lake City.
On August 14th, 1975, Armand married the love of his life, Carol, who never left his side through all their journeys and adventures. With the support of his loving red-headed wife, and the assistance of Veterans’ Affairs, Armand received his pilot’s license where he continued his career in mineral and oil exploration through the air until 1993. With Carol as equipment operator and Armand navigating the wheel, they made an unstoppable team.
In October of 1981, Armand and Carol welcomed their one and only daughter, Ashley, into the world. Now a family of three, they hit the road with Armand flying a Cessna 320 while Carol and Ashley traveled in the custom van and 28” travel trailer that was now their home on wheels. After thousands of miles on the road and in the air, Armand and Carol retired from aviation and continued in their real estate and other business endeavors, while their daughter was known to always keep him on his toes.
Armand leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Carol, daughter, Ashley (Clinton), and his three older brothers, Edward (Natalie), George (Lynne) and Richard (Janet). As well as his nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved and admired him like a father figure. Armand will always be remembered as mentor to many. Known as a man of few words, Armand’s impact and resilience on those who knew him will never be forgotten. His legacy and memory will continue in his wife, daughter and those who loved and admired him.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to your local veteran’s suicide prevention charity in Armand’s memory. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, to allow us to process and heal during this difficult time.
