Augustin "Pete" Petermann

Augustin "Pete" Petermann lost his battle to pancreatic cancer at home on April 7, 2016.  Pete was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia, on June 5, 1943.  The war had ended and he was taken to East Berlin, then West Berlin where his family was received as refugees in the American sector.  His family immigrated in 1959 to Salt Lake City where he attended South High School and led their State Championship soccer team.

Pete served three tours in Vietnam.  He was a non-commissioned and battlefield officer in the Army's highly decorated First Cavalry.  Pete earned three bronze stars with an oak leaf cluster for extraordinary valor.   He received both Army and Vietnam Government accommodations and medals.  He was recognized for his leadership in combat on forward firebases where he was gravely wounded several times.

Pete found his passion for real estate while stationed in Hawaii.  He became a father with the birth of his daughter, Jennifer, who gave him four grandchildren.  He opened a real estate office in San Luis Obispo, California.  He eventually returned to Salt Lake City to help his sister care for their father after his mother passed in 1996.  He married Heidi Dammaschke.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi; brother, Alfred (Nickola) Petermann; sister, Alena (Stephen) Balmforth; daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Harrigan; daughter, Taniesha Petermann; and step-son, Tyson Burningham. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bozena Petermann.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15th, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park Chapel, 17111 South 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah, where friends may call from noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment with full military honors following services.
