Barbara Alene Staley Christian

Barbara Alene Staley Christian of West Valley City, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023, after a brief illness. Barbara was born August 8, 1929, to Conrad and Grautell Staley in Coalville, Utah. As a young girl she loved being outdoors and especially cherished fishing trips with her parents and later shared her love of fishing with her own children. She loved learning and attended schools in Coalville, Dragerton, Ogden, Sunnyside and Price Utah. Her Grandma Meadows and her mother taught her how to crochet and all things needlework. She taught anyone who wanted to learn how to crochet and mixed learning to crochet with all kinds of stories from her childhood along with her favorite cookies and chocolates. Over the years, her family and friends benefitted from her talents with many gifts of blankets and beautiful embroidery pieces we will forever cherish. Barbara also loved golfing and enjoyed the friendships she made on the golf course.
Barbara married the love of her life, William Warren Christian, on June 4, 1983, in West Valley City, Utah. They loved fishing and time spent at their cabin with friends and family. Barbara and Warren shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. In June they would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Barbara made friends wherever she went. She worked many years at Litton and Intermountain Healthcare where she made many lifelong friends. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and shared many wonderful friendships with her Relief Society sisters. She developed a special friendship with Scott and Amber Johnson and their family and loved them like her own.
Barbara is survived by her son Jake (Jerry) Balliger (Pam), Sister Connie (Brent, deceased) Benson, Brother Richard (Karen) Staley, Sister-in-law Donna (Larry deceased) Staley, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Wayne and Larry, Sister Marlene, daughter Barbara Jean (Jeanie) Jones, sons Alex Jones and Layne Jones.
A memorial service will be held on April 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Redwood Memorial Mortuaries & Cemeteries at 6500 South Redwood Road in West Jordan, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite animal society in Barbara’s name.
