Obituary

Benjamin Kent Cahoon, 74, passed away on August 1, 2026, at University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to injuries sustained in a house fire.

Ben was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 1, 1952. He shared the same birthday as his father, William. Kent Cahoon, creating a special bond between them. He was the son of William and Beverly Cahoon.

Ben graduated from Kearns High School after living in South Korea while his father worked for the U.S. government. His greatest joys were his family, golf, cheering on the Utah Utes, and the Grateful Dead. Ben had a charismatic personality and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

On March 20, 1982, Ben married Jana Rae Driffill and proudly became a father to her two sons, Brian Haehnel and Michael Bauman. Ben loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jana Cahoon; his sons, Brian Haehnel and Michael Bauman (Jennifer); his grandson, Ryker Bauman; his great-granddaughter, Xahleese Street; and his brother, Eric Cahoon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Beverly Cahoon, and his grandson, Xander Street.

Through the heroic gift of organ and tissue donation, Ben's generosity will continue to make a difference in the lives of others, leaving behind a legacy of hope and compassion. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, Burn Center staff, organ donation team, and all the caregivers at University of Utah Hospital for the extraordinary care, compassion, and unwavering support they provided to Ben and our family. Your kindness, professionalism, and dignity during the most difficult days of our lives will never be forgotten.

Ben’s bear hugs will be missed by many!

A celebration of Ben's life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 2 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT 84123.
