Bernice Medina, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and friend to many, 70, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on December 10th, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
She was born in Romeo, Colorado, in 1955 to Victor Tapia and Nellie Carbal. Bernice worked at Holiday Inn for 20 years, where she accumulated many lifelong friends and precious memories. Later, she became known as “grandma” to many children in our family and community. She ran a daycare out of her home for many years and loved watching them grow into wonderful adults.
Bernice cherished her role as a mother to Cathy and Connie. They were her pride and joy, and she believed their birth brought purpose and meaning to her life. That love was deeply felt, and they remained a steady source of support for her. Bernice found endless joy in her grandchildren, who brought laughter, light, and purpose to her life. She adored each of them and treasured every moment spent together.
Bernice was preceded in death by her father, Victor Tapia; her sisters, Lucy and Joylynn; her brothers, Victor Dean, Luther, Terry, and Todd; her son-in-law, Japoy; and her beloved granddaughter, Valeecia.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughters, Cathy, Connie and Elena; her grandchildren, Frankie, Amelia, Martina, and Mateo; her sisters, Vickie and Maria, and many nieces and nephews who will never forget the love she brought into their lives.
Bernice’s life was defined by love—love for her family, her community, and every child who called her ‘Grandma.’ Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, warmth, and unwavering love. Her presence will be missed beyond words, but her influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
