Beth Walton Smith

June 23, 1920 — July 23, 2013

A native to Salt Lake City, Utah, Beth was the only daughter born to Jesse Franklin Walton and Harriet Mariah Graham Walton. On July 3rd, 1943, she was married to Thomas Garrett Smith from Daggett County, Utah. They were married for 66 years until Thomas preceded her in death on June 22, 2009. She is survived by five children: Frank (65), Kathleen (63), Marilyn (61), Diana (58) and Valerie (56), as well as eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A woman of great accomplishment and community involvement, many lives have been touched in her 93 years in the Greater Salt Lake Area:

- She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Arts degree in music.

- She loved art and music. She taught both of them in the local school district and taught piano out of her home for many years.

- She was active in church, in family history and politics, also volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader in the Kenwood 2nd Ward and 4-H Leader in the community.

- She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

- For several years, she played piano for LDS church services for the inmates at the Utah State Prison facility at Promontory Point.

- After retirement, Tom and Beth served together on a mission for the LDS church in New Mexico during 1980-1981.

- Upon returning from their mission, she completed a Master of Arts Degree in Piano Pedagogy from Brigham Young University.

For the last four years of her life, she lived with her grandson, Christopher Lynn Plant, and his family who have been dedicated to the provision of a quality end of life experience for her, as her health had diminished.

Beth lived a very full life and we are happy to share in celebrating her life with all who's lives have been touched by hers. Her legacy to her beloved family is a deep abiding faith in Jesus Christ, our redeemer, and a deep appreciation for the art and music talents that are God's abundant gifts to all of humanity.

Thank you, The Smith Family
