Betty Marie Bernhisel Wilson

March 29, 1926 — May 9, 2010

Our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and wonderful friend, Betty Marie Bernhisel Wilson passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010 (on Mother's Day), at her daughter's home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 29th, 1926 in Logan, Utah to Harris Fay and Marie Beirdneau Bernhisel. She was raised on a farm in Lewiston, Utah where she learned the value of hard work and dear family relationships.

Betty attended Utah State University where she studied for a teaching degree. Married Ross Talmage Wilson on September 14, 1946 and had three children: Doug, Elizabeth and Julie. Julie died the day after she was born.

Betty taught kindergarten from 1946 to 1948 and later did some substitute teaching in the Granite School District. The two careers she enjoyed the most in her life were working for her brother Dr. Harris Bernhisel as an x-ray technician and later working at the downtown ZCMI in the china department and domestics. She formed many lasting relationships from these jobs.

Betty had many passions including her yard and garden and attending the Utah Symphony. She had a love for beautiful art and music. She herself had a talent for oil and watercolor painting, for decorating her home and she was a great photographer. She also enjoyed viewing professional golf and college football games including the USU Aggies but especially the BYU Cougars. Her greatest passion however was being with her loving family and friends.

Betty is survived by two children, Doug Wilson, Liz (Mickey) Roach, four grandchildren Zach (Alisha) Roach, Jim (Wendy) Roach, Jessica (Brian) Walters, Adam Roach and her great-grandson Tyler, for whom she held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by three brothers, Dr. Ted Bernhisel (Maxine, deceased), Dr. Harris (Bethine) Bernhisel, Jay (Janet) Bernhisel and her sister Virginia Bernhisel. Betty was known as a gracious lady by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 13th at 11:00 am at the Canyon Rim Stake Center located at 3051 South 2900 East. A visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:30 am - 10:30 am, prior to the service. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery. The family would like to express gratitude to Utah Hospice Specialists, especially to Frankie and Kari, for their compassionate care and concern.
