Betty Louise Weierick Long

April 30, 1925 — September 5, 2010

Surrounded by her family, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed on September 5, 2010 at CareSource Hospice in Salt Lake City.

Betty was born in Tyrone, Pennsylvania to Phoebe and Chester Weierick on April 30, 1925. In 1943 she graduated from Tyrone Area High School. As a young woman, Betty worked at Silvania as well as Lugg and Edmonds Department Store.

On July 29, 1956, Betty married the love of her life William David Long of Six Mile Run, Pennsylvania in the Methodist Church in Tyrone then began her life work as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dedicated church volunteer. Betty and Bill lived in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and then in Lavale, Maryland until 1965 when the family was transferred to Salt Lake City by Hercules Inc., where they have lived in the same home for the past 45 years. They have two children, David (Dave) and Richard (Rick) 4 grandchildren Jake, Kayla, Courtney, and Jason. Other surviving loved ones include Hallie, Lexi, Paitan, Nicole, Christian, Amethyst, Deidre, and Jeff, Jonathan, Andrew. Betty was involved in the Christ United Methodist Church's organization of interfaith hospitality (now family promise) in Utah. Betty also organized and served meals at the Salvation Army for many years.

Betty and Bill loved to travel and spend quality time together. They renewed their vows in 2000 on the Delta Queen Cruise Line during one of their many voyages. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary together this year. The Long family would like all of the medical professionals that have cared for and helped Betty over the last several years to know how much they are appreciated for their kindness, especially Dr. Alison Schlisman and the staff at CareSource Hospice.

Memorial services will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 East 3300 South Salt Lake City, Utah Saturday 11 of September 2010 at 4 pm. Online messages and tributes can be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com
