It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Lauro, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother from this life to the welcoming arms of her loving savior, Jesus Christ. Beverly had a profound testimony of the reality of the resurrection and certainty of God's love. It was this certain faith that enabled her to withstand the pains and suffering of her later years.
Beverly was born on February 20, 1927, to Harold and Margaret Blecker, in Canton, Ohio. She adored her father and had a very close relationship with him. She attended college in Ohio, received a teaching certificate and became an elementary school teacher. Needless to say, she was loved by her students. Beverly had a beautiful singing voice and was a very attractive woman. As such, she did modeling and performing at many venues in Ohio. That brought her in contact with our father Larry in 1954, who was working at a county fair as a salesman. It was love at first sight for Larry, who promptly went up to Beverly and told her to take off her shoes so he could see if he was taller than she. Beverly refused but then thought better of it and complied. They were married later that year and Larry, a widower, brought his two daughters (Lynne and Laraine) from his previous marriage into the new family. Their son Bill was born in 1956. Beverly was always the levelheaded one and was a perfect balance to Larry’s passion. In 1959 Larry announced that he could no longer tolerate the Ohio winters and said he was moving the family to South Florida. He had no job and no idea where they would live. Beverly was shocked, but supportive, knowing that God would watch over them and knowing that with Beverly’s brains and Larry’s brawn they would survive. Money was scarce, but Beverly made a beautiful and comfortable home. When Bill was old enough to go to school, Beverly got part-time jobs to help support the family. With Larry’s outgoing personality he landed a job in the insurance business. He did well and in 1970 Larry was offered a job promotion but it meant moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. Larry initially turned the job down (too cold!) but after he thought about it that evening he said something kept telling him to take the promotion even though it was far from home. They only lasted two years in Utah (too cold!) before moving back to Florida. But that was long enough for Larry, Beverly and Bill to join the Church. Bill remained in Utah to attend college and then medical school. Soon Bill got married, had kids, and Beverly and Larry realized that even though Utah was cold, that’s where the grandkids were! So in 1985 they moved back to Utah, settling in Sandy and living in the very home where Larry passed away, and now Beverly. They both loved their ward and neighborhood so much they never left. They were both very active in the church and together devoted themselves to a service mission and temple service. Beverly also wanted everyone to know that she did her visiting teaching!
Beverly loved to help other people. She heard about a way to help abused children by sewing stuffed animals and donating them to the center. She and Larry would collect old worn-out stuffy’s, clean and mend them, and give them to the shelter. They also would walk along back country roads and pick up aluminum cans, collect the money and donate that to the shelters as well. When Larry passed, Beverly soldiered on for 18 more years alone. It was hard, but she leaned on her wonderful neighbors and ward members for support. Beverly started having physical problems as she went past her 90th year, developing severe arthritis in her back, knees and hips. She had surgeries, which helped somewhat, but it seemed that every passing year brought more pain and suffering. She was bedridden from her 98th birthday on. She kept saying she was going to live to be 100, and she almost got there!
Beverly passed away March 6, 2026. She is survived by her three children, Lynne Bestic (Bill), Laraine Shorr (Fred), and William Lauro (Debbie); by the greatest grandkids ever (Brad, Ryan, Lindsay, Daniel, Allison, and Matt); lots and lots of great grandchildren; and friends from here to Florida. The family gives special thanks to mom’s caregivers, especially our dear Lisa.
Services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, with a viewing at 11 AM and funeral at 12:15 pm at the Sandy Utah Granite Stake Center, 2535 East Newcastle Dr., Sandy, UT. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Blvd. No flowers please, donate instead to any pediatric center throughout the country.
