"Our Beloved Grandmother"

Beverly May Smith Schwendiman our loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife and devoted friend passed away peacefully on Saturday September 8, 2012 at the age of 88. She was born July 11, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Michael and Lola G. Smith. She graduated from South High School in 1942. She married Kay Austin Schwendiman on July 21, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. They recently celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary.

Mom was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. She served in Stake and Ward Relief Society Presidencies and as a Teacher in the Relief Society and the Young Women organizations. Her favorite calling was serving in the Primary where she loved being the chorister. Mom loved music, especially Primary songs. She loved to hear and would encourage her grandchildren and great grandchildren to sing for her. Mom also served as a faithful Visiting Teacher. She made it a priority to visit each of her sisters every month. She was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and sang and traveled with them for 21 years. Mom was an avid Ute Fan and loved wearing her red and attending the Football and Basketball games with her family. She had a special place in her heart for the Red Rocks Gymnastics team and knew each team member by name each season.

Perhaps Moms greatest service was to her family. She loved them dearly and never missed an opportunity to express her love for them. She devoted 34 years in caring for our handicapped brother Kirk and did so with grace, courage and was an example of unconditional love.

Beverly is survived by her husband Kay; their three children, David (Barbara) Schwendiman, Beth Ann (Mike) Berry and Rex (Yolanda) Schwendiman; 10 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren with one more to be born in November. She is also survived by her sister Beth Schwendiman and sister-in-law Joan Sharp, as well as many nieces and nephews. Beverly is preceded in death by her son Kirk.

Our special thanks to the loving staff and caregivers at The Residence at CareSource, We cannot begin to thank you for all the kindness and love you have given to our mother and shared with our family.
