Billy Marquez

January 26, 1959 — January 16, 2024

Salt Lake City

Billy R. Marquez passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  The oldest of five children, he was born on January 26, 1959, in Farmington, New Mexico to Ray Marquez and Evelyn Marquez Southwick.  He attended South High School in Salt Lake City where he met his wife, Jean Miyake.  They were married for over 45 years and together raised two children, JoAnn and Alex.  Billy was a long-time employee of Daw Construction Group as a drywall finisher.  He was a proud member and retiree of IUPAT Local 77.  Billy had many interests from fishing to creative arts and had a lifelong love of cars.  He happily spent countless hours “wrenching” on his hot rods.  The only thing he enjoyed better was spending time with his grandkids and family.  Billy was fortunate to have made many friends throughout his life and he valued those relationships, as well as the relationships he had with family members.  He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter JoAnn (Dominic) Poulos, son Alex (Valerie) Marquez, grandchildren Xander, Mia and Crew Marquez, siblings Gary (Bonnie) Marquez, Mary (David) Coolbear, Alvin (Angie) Marquez and Robby Marquez, as well as nieces and nephews and many extended family members.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  He was cremated and will be interred in the Salt Lake City Cemetery at a later date.  A Celebration of Life will be held on February 3, 2024, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Chase Mill at Tracy Aviary, 589 East 1300 South, in Liberty Park, Salt Lake City.
