Billy Watanabe

October 29, 1930 — January 22, 2026

Billy Yoichi Watanabe, aged 95, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on October 29, 1930, in Twin Falls, Idaho, Billy was the cherished son of Ben and Sui Watanabe. His early years were shaped by the idyllic scenery of Twin Falls, where he developed a love for the great outdoors. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing.

A proud soldier, Billy was drafted by the US Army and found himself stationed in Germany after World War II, where he served his country with honor and dignity. Upon returning home, he married his beloved Kaye Aoki in Ogden, Utah. Together, they built a warm and loving home, raising their family in West Jordan, Utah, where their shared dreams flourished.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kaye, and their three sons, Bryan (Shireen), Jeff (Silvana), and Richard, who will carry forward his legacy with love. Throughout his life, Billy was known for his avid gardening skills, a hobby that brought him joy and a sense of accomplishment. The beauty he cultivated in his garden mirrored the love he tended to within his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren Kayla, Monet, Adam, and Nate.

Billy’s legacy extends beyond his greenery; it's embodied in the fond memories shared among his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Sui Watanabe, along with his many brothers and sisters who have left a profound mark on his life.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Nurse Natalie at Bristol Hospice for her compassionate care during his final days. The family would also like to express gratitude for the VA Hospital for their valued care these past few years.

Billy’s generosity will be forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. His life was a testament to the power of family, friendship, love, and the beauty that can be nurtured both in gardens and in hearts.

A family-only private graveside service will take place at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery in West Jordan, Utah, beginning at 10:30 AM on January 31, 2026.
