Bonnie Ann Gundersen Weber

Bonnie Ann Gundersen Weber passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, in Sandy, Utah, at the age of 83 after several years of living with Alzheimer's disease.

Those who knew Bonnie will remember her for her warmth, unwavering encouragement, deep faith, infectious love of music, and her genuine belief in the goodness and potential of every person she met.

Born on November 4, 1942, in Murray, Utah, to Orson and Effie Gundersen, Bonnie spent nearly her entire life in the Holladay community she loved. She took great pride in her family's deep roots in the area and cherished the lifelong friendships she built with her siblings, cousins, neighbors, and fellow members of the Valley View 9th Ward.

Bonnie earned a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from the University of Utah and devoted her life to music, education, faith, and family. She began her career conducting award-winning choirs at Skyline High School before choosing to devote herself full-time to raising her three daughters. Later, she returned to teaching, spending many years as a history teacher before retiring from Northwest Middle School in 2005.

Music was at the heart of Bonnie's life. An accomplished vocalist, choir director, private voice teacher, and composer, she shared her gifts generously with others. While living in Soda Springs, Idaho, she founded a community theater program, bringing musical theater to the community and directing productions such as Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, and Oklahoma!. She believed deeply in the power of music to inspire, connect, and bring beauty into the world, and she nurtured that same love of the arts in her daughters and countless students. Her original compositions, many inspired by scripture and the Christmas story, remain part of her enduring legacy.

Bonnie was known for her kind and open heart. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, encouraged, and valued. As a history teacher, she instilled in others a love of learning, an appreciation for American history, and a strong sense of civic responsibility. She believed deeply in education, lifelong learning, and the importance of informed citizenship.

A woman of deep faith, Bonnie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served faithfully in numerous callings, including choir director, Relief Society counselor, Sunday School teacher, Nursery teacher, and Young Women’s leader. She and her husband also found great joy serving together three times in the Salt Lake Inner-City Mission.

Above all, Bonnie's greatest love was her family. She married the love of her life, David LeRoy Weber, in the Salt Lake Temple on April 12, 1974. Together they built a marriage founded on faith, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Bonnie's greatest joy was raising their three daughters, encouraging them to work hard, pursue their education, develop their talents, serve others, and live lives of purpose and integrity.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents, Orson and Effie Gundersen; her sisters, Evelyn Confer and Judy Harris; her sister-in-law, Barbara Gundersen; and her parents-in-law, Jacob and Violet Weber.

She is survived by her daughters, Rachel (Alex) Morot, Sarah Weber, and Amber Weber; her brothers, Richard (Cheri) Gundersen, Brian Gundersen, and Kirk (Kris) Gundersen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, and dear friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Cedarwood at Sandy Memory Care and Utah Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided during Bonnie's final year.

A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Valley View 9th Ward meetinghouse, 1925 E. Gundersen Lane, Holladay, Utah. Interment will follow at Holladay Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites tax-deductible donations in Bonnie's memory to her daughter Sarah's non-profit, the Association of California Symphony Orchestras, supporting the next generation of musicians, music educators, and orchestra leaders.
