Boyd

Boyd Birks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home on July 31, 2026, at the age of 95.

Boyd was born on November 30, 1930, in Melba, Idaho, to Orval Edwin Birks and Minnie Maude Whipple. He was raised with the values of hard work, faith, and service that would guide him throughout his life.

On August 5, 1960, Boyd married his eternal companion and best friend, Deanne Elmer, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and service. Their marriage was a beautiful example of devotion, and they cherished their years together until Deanne's passing.

Boyd had an incredible work ethic and a love for serving others. He worked at the Salt Lake Temple for many years doing Maintenance work and even helping every year to put up the Holiday lightening in Temple Square. After retiring from the temple he worked in maintenance for Bountiful Power, where he earned numerous safety awards in recognition of his dedication and commitment.

Boyd found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved riding his bicycle and faithfully rode nearly ten miles a day until he was about 92 years old. He enjoyed fixing cars and took pride in teaching his children how to maintain and care for their own vehicles. He loved working in his yard, he took pride in his yard and continued to do so until he was no longer physically able. He loved spending time outdoors, camping with his family, and making memories on ward campouts. The ward campouts were some of his favorite camping trips. His last camping trip he enjoyed with his daughter and grandkids Jeremiah and Jami was in Torrey UT and got to visit Capitol Reef National Park in 2021. He got to enjoy his last camping trip in 2023 in Cache Creek with his Son Randy, his wife, and grandkids Kyle, and Alison, and their children.

One of Boyd’s greatest gifts was his love for people. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone willing to visit. He especially loved babies and young children, and they naturally loved him in return. His kindness, gentle spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Boyd faithfully served in many callings as a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among his favorite experiences were serving alongside his sweetheart in Primary. He had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel. Throughout his life, he sought to live Christlike values through service, love, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Boyd’s greatest legacy is the example he set for his family. He taught his children the value of hard work, honesty, self-reliance, and serving others through both his words and his example.

He is survived by his son, Randy Birks (Stacey); his daughter, Tina Jones; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Clarence "Bud" Birks; his sister, Ilafae Henrie; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deanne Elmer Birks; his son, Lee Boyd Birks; his son-in-law, Steven Louis Jones; his parents, Orval Edwin Birks and Minnie Maude Whipple Birks; his brothers, Albert, Howard, and Jay Birks; his sisters, Ruby, Rosella, and June; and many other cherished family members who welcomed him home.

Boyd will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his generous heart, his tireless work ethic, and the love he freely gave to everyone around him. His life was one of quiet service, steadfast devotion, and enduring love. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he has been joyfully reunited with his beloved Deanne and with the family members who preceded him. His example will continue to bless generations to come.
