Bruce Delbert Johnson

January 15, 1938 — March 31, 2026

Bruce D. Johnson, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born on January 15, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and grew up in the Sugarhouse area.

As a young man, Bruce proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter for Summit County. He met the love of his life, Colleen, while they were both attending Hawthorne Elementary School. Their young love continued through Lincoln Junior High and South High School, and they were married in 1956 shortly after graduation, beginning a lifelong partnership devoted to family and one another.

Bruce served his country in the United States Army before returning home to Utah to build his life with Colleen. They settled in Granger (West Valley City), Utah, where they raised their three sons: Michael, Steven, and Christopher. Together, Bruce and Colleen created a strong and loving family, welcoming generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bruce was a skilled and dedicated master welder. He worked for over 30 years at Chicago Bridge & Iron (CBI) until the closure of its Salt Lake division in 1990. He later continued his career at Rocky Mountain Fabrication and Engineering until his retirement in 2010. Never one to stay idle, Bruce remained active and social, working for many years at Walmart in West Valley City, where he formed many lasting friendships.

An avid outdoorsman, Bruce found great joy in hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and taking pride in maintaining his yard. He will be remembered for his friendly nature, strong work ethic, and the love he had for his family.

Bruce is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Colleen; his sons, Michael and Steven; his parents, Delbert and Ruth; and his sisters, Loraine and Charlene.

He is survived by his son, Christopher (D'Ann) Johnson, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will continue to carry on his legacy.

Bruce will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and the importance of family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family appreciates the love and support extended to them during this time.
