Carie Jane Proper, age 41, died on May 31st in West Jordan. She was born on July 13, 1984, in Anchorage, Alaska to Dennis and Wanda Herrera.
Growing up military, Carie lived in many places, including California, Germany, and Colorado. She played softball and bowled competitively as a child.
Family was everything to Carie. She was very close with her mother and sisters, and was a devoted and loving parent to her four beloved children. Despite being a bit of an introvert, Carie could always be counted on to show up for every birthday party, holiday, or other family event.
Carie had an enormous passion for music. She loved attending concerts by bands of all musical genres. Her favorite band was Sleep Token. She was a beautiful vocalist and enjoyed playing the guitar. She loved to write and was often seen jotting down poetry.
She is survived by her father, Dennis Herrera (Thomasina); her children, Devilyn Hindman (Sheila), McKayle Hindman, Ella Proper, and Roman Proper; her sisters, Kelie Escobar (David), Merie Herrera, and Lorie Clark; her nieces, Hollie Alderson, Itzie Escobar, and Tara Jane Patterson; her nephews, Charley Escobar, Taylor Escobar, Israel Escobar, Elias Escobar, Thomas Patterson, and Richard Chernavsky; her aunt, Janis Boyington; and many friends who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Marie Herrera; her grandmothers, Mary Jane Herrera and Marjorie Ruth Magowan; her grandfather, Dennis Leroy Herrera; and her aunt, Martha Yvonne Bailie.
A celebration of Carie’s life will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary on Thursday, June 11th, at 6500 S. Redwood Road in West Jordan. A viewing will be held at 12 with services to follow at 2 pm.
