Carlton Harry Stowe

Carlton Harry Stowe was born in Lander, Wyoming on August 21, 1933 and passed away at 89 years of age on June 29, 2023.  He was the son of James Harold Stowe and Violet Madeline Huestis Stowe and was the younger brother of Jerome Stowe.  Carlton graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper Wyoming in 1951.  He graduated from the University of Utah in 1972.  He also attended Columbia University in New York City.  He enjoyed over 70 years of marriage to Jean Marie Bressler, of Casper Wyoming.  Carlton entered the US Navy and served for four years from 1952 to 1956.  After his discharge he began a long career in the oil and gas industry, working in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah and eventually relocating to Salt Lake City in 1968.  He was employed for many years by the state of Utah at the Geological Survey as a Mineral Specialist.  During these years he authored many books, most notably, “Utah’s Oil and Gas Industry:  Past, Present and Future”.  He later became an independent landman and worked throughout the United States and other countries including Tunisia, Russia, Republic of Dagestan and China.  After retirement in 1995, Carlton enjoyed many hobbies such as camping, rock-hounding (rock collecting), gardening, bird watching and his time with the family dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Jean M Stowe and sons, Robert C Stowe (Trish), Kevin L Stowe (Carol) and J Garth Stowe (Becky) and daughter in law Brenda Stowe.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Carlton and Jean heard the gospel in 1957 and enjoyed opening their home for many years for the fellowship of God’s people.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.  Visitation will be on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at and on Friday prior to services from 9:00 to 9:45 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary.
Interment following services at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
A gathering of friends and family will be held after the services.  Details to be announced at the end of service.
Donations in honor of Carlton may be made to the charity of your choice.
