Carol Mary Bass

December 25, 1928 — July 24, 2025

Salt Lake City

Carol Mary Bass, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at the age of 96 in Kearns, Utah.

Carol was born on December 25, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James Henry Austin and Dolly Mary Sadler. A Christmas Day baby, she brought light and joy into the lives of all who knew her from the very beginning.

On November 1, 1950, Carol married the love of her life, Rex W. Bass. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage and raised six children in a home filled with love, laughter, and lifelong memories.

Carol lived a life of service and generosity. For over 50 years, she dedicated her time volunteering for Veterans through the American Legion. Whether organizing Christmas donation drives at the VA Hospital or lovingly placing poppies on the graves of Veterans each Veterans Day, Carol was a tireless supporter of those who served our country.

She worked for Sperry Corporation for 27 years, where she retired in 1986 as a well-respected supervisor known for her dedication and kindness. Her coworkers admired her leadership, and she remained a friend to many long after her retirement.

Carol had an open door and an open heart. She deeply valued time with her friends, neighbors, and especially her family. She was the gracious host of annual Mother’s Day and Father’s Day BBQs, and her Christmas Eve parties were legendary—a joyful tradition loved by all.

She had many passions throughout her life, including gardening, quilting, sewing, and traveling the world. She found beauty in the simple things and joy in sharing her gifts with others.

Carol is survived by five children: Marsha Hansen (Mike), Scott Bass (Colleen †), Kevin Bass (Robyn), Carrie Burbidge (Ken), and Paul Bass (Teresa); 18 grandchildren; as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and even great-great-great-grandchildren, who were all blessed to know her love and wisdom. Also sister's Pat Marshall and Jackie Struhes

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex W. Bass; her daughter, Rosemary Garrett (Jack); and daughter-in-law, Colleen Bass. Sister Martha Andresen, father James Henry Austin and mother Dolly Mary Sadler.
