Charles Arthur Thayer

May 29, 1944 — November 2, 2022

On November 2nd, 2022, our dad, Charlie, Chuck, or Charles Arthur Thayer passed from this life in his home in Sandy, Utah, surrounded by his children. Charlie was born May 29, 1944 in Delta, Utah. He was the youngest of five children born to Virginia Tripp.
He grew up working in the family business, OK Rubber Welders Tire Shop, in Delta, Utah. He was a master carpenter and built many things from buildings to houses, to play houses and swingsets for his children. He worked many jobs in a few different fields, but mostly construction. He worked in maintenance at Granite School District until his stroke in 2000. He was always a hard worker, and passed that on to his children.
Fatherhood has been his proudest achievement, biggest stress, and greatest joy. He would defend his kids to anyone, when they deserved it, and sometimes when they didn’t. He also helped to raise a handful of grandchildren. One of his granddaughters, Maddiline Fisher, returned the favor by giving her papa such tender loving nursing care as his health declined. And all of them have always known he loved them, absolutely and unconditionally.
He loved clocks, coins, guns, his boots, hunting, fishing, church keys, country fried chicken, shaking his head, wood working, John Wayne, Western movies and shows, antique collecting, hard tack candy, his riding lawn mower, making Belgian waffles, DI walks, and a side of general hoarding (kids included).
He hated being late, half and half, ex-wives, dumbasses, and all drivers.
He was a member of the LDS church and attended the temple and church for as long as his health would allow.
He is preceded in death by his son Phillip Thayer, his parents, and his siblings, Ronnie, Stella, Gary, and Joyce, and his best friend, Cliff Warren.
He is survived by his stubborn will (passed on to his children), his blue 65 Ford Galaxy XL Convertible, and the house he bought three times. Also surviving him are his children: Sharlene Thayer (Jon Collins), Calvin Thayer (Tiffany Meyer), Casey Thayer (Joan), LeeAnna Taylor (Jerry), and Kolby Thayer (Nicole), step-daughters, Heather Katsilas (Jason), and Rachel Miller (Brian). And sons Kerry and Darry Thayer. He was Papa to 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A funeral and viewing will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Redwood Memorial Estates at 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, UT 84123. A viewing will be held from 1:00-2:00pm. The funeral will follow from 2:00-3:00, after which he will be buried in the Redwood Memorial Estates cemetery. Be like Chuck/Charlie, and wear a western shirt and/or bolo tie to the services.
“I just say it the way it is”
We’re going to miss the hell out of you Daddy and Papa!
