Charles E. Parkin

Charles E. Parkin passed away April 13, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born December 20, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Consuella Berrett and Albert Parkin, the fourth of seven children. He married Christina Kutulas August 22, 1950. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended Granite High School, BYU, Ohio University, University of Utah, and graduated from Washington University Dental School followed by a surgical residency at Brighton Hospital in Boston. His education was an important achievement of Charles' life, which had a great impact on his children.

Charles loved dentistry and practiced for many years. He also established insurance companies in Utah, Delta Dental and P.I.E., which were innovative approaches to both dental insurance and malpractice dental insurance.

Charles was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and had a passion for the scriptures. He served an LDS mission in the Central States Mission, and he and his wife, Christine, served a mission in St. George, Utah. Having a love for his country, Charles served in the U.S. Army for three years during WWII. He also served two terms as a representative in the Utah State Legislature.

Involved in many hobbies, Charles was fascinated with airplane flying and loved his Bonanza. He and his family flew for 25 years all over the country, Canada, and Mexico.

Charles is survived by his wife, Christine, who constantly and courageously cared for him during the last five years; children, Susan (Ray) Lebaron, Richard (Lynette) Parkin, Marianne (Lane)Card; and Greg (Susan) Parkin. He had 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn Woodward and Barbara Douglas. Preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, and son, Charles Gary Parkin.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 at noon, at the Valley View 10th Ward, 2000 East 3900 South, where family and friends can visit Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 am prior to the services.
