Christy Hofheins Lundquist passed away quietly at home on October 15, 2025, following a courageous fight with colon cancer. Christy was born April 1, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Grant and Carol Hofheins. Her adolescent years were spent in Midvale. She spoke of a magical childhood with family, friends, and lots of fields to play in. She became a horse lover at an early age. She and a friend would sneak into a nearby horse pasture. After a time, they were able to befriend the horses and started riding them bareback. Either the owners didn’t know, or they didn’t care! Christy collected horse hair off the barbed wire fence and yearned for a horse of her own. Around twelve years old, her dad surprised her with a horse. It was a beautiful palomino named Flag. She dearly loved Flag, and her dad would oftentimes bring Flag home to stay the weekend in their small backyard. Christy all but slept out there. She joined 4H and, as a teenager, was an accomplished barrel rider. Her love for horses has never dimmed, as shown by many of the posts she made of beautiful horses.
Christy has younger siblings, Jeff and Barbara, and had many cherished memories growing up with them in a loving household. She attended Hillcrest High School and was blessed to have many good friends to associate with that lasted for many years. She enjoyed those three years very much.
Following high school, she landed a job at the Broadway Department Store, a newly opening store at Fashion Place Mall. She worked in women’s clothes and flirted with a man her age who worked in the men’s clothing department. They began dating, and a romance quickly budded. They dated for a few months, and Cole felt prompted to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A few months later, Cole was off to Argentina for two years. Christy had a wonderful family, but none of them were active in the Church, and Christy had rarely gone to church. She felt the Spirit working on her and became very active and grew greatly as she participated in everything. She got a job at the Church Office Building in Confidential Records and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Cole came home, and they were married eight months later in the Salt Lake Temple. As the years went by, they had Nicole, Michael, and Melissa, all two years apart. Family life was what Christy cherished more than anything. All the years were special, and she loved her family to the max. The kids eventually left home and blessed Christy with eight beautiful grandchildren, whom she couldn’t get enough of! For Christy, her earthly fulfillment and joy came from her family.
Christy had an angelic singing voice and sang on many occasions, delighting many. She loved country music and performed beautifully. She also could sing hymns and sacred songs with such tenderness that it would bring some to tears. The last ten years or so of her life, she had the itch to play the ukulele and guitar. She was self-taught and got quite good. She practiced about two hours every day. Cole got used to watching TV while she strummed and sometimes sang her favorite songs. He is really missing the sweet songs she would play on the guitar.
Christy was an active and faithful member of the Church all her days ever since she and Cole began their journey together 50 years ago. She had many callings over the years, her last being a loving Primary teacher with the children. She loved Jesus Christ. She had a penetrating testimony that Jesus is the Savior of all mankind, that His Church was restored again on the earth in the latter days, and that Apostles and Prophets live and hold the original keys of authority—those same keys that sealed her eternally to her family. In her last few days of life, she had an assurance of seeing her Savior again and one day receiving a celestial resurrected body. Her final days were filled with peace and joyful anticipation of greeting loved ones on the other side of the veil. She gave great assurances of this to her grandchildren and told them she wouldn’t be far from them.
Christy is survived by her beloved husband , Cole Lundquist, her children, Nicole (Eric) Ballou, Michael Lundquist, and Melissa Lundquist, Eight grandchildren, and her sister Barbara Mosher..
She is preceded in death by her parents, Grant Hofheins and Carol Brundage Hofheins, and her brother, Jeffrey Hofheins.
Christy left a legacy of family—a legacy of kindness, love, and laughter wherever she went. Many lives have been brightened when they crossed paths with her. She was a humble example for all of us to follow.
