Claude Wilson Hoskisson passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, July 8, 2011. He was 88 years old.
He was born on January 2, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arnison and Amelia Wilson Hoskisson. As a young man, he loved spending his summers at "the ranch" in Conner Basin (near Manila, Utah) with his sister Evelyn and her family, working and riding horses into the nearby Uinta Mountains. He graduated from South High School in 1941.
He married Carol Roselyn Baker on June 23, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple on June 1, 1965. Claude was a meat cutter by trade and ran the family grocery store for many years before having polio in the early 1950s. He became a real estate agent in the 1960s and ultimately worked for a mortgage brokerage firm.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Camping with grandpa and grandma in the camper was always a summer treat for the grandchildren. Claude and Carol were always willing to take in family and friends who needed a helping hand. Claude enjoyed socializing with neighbors and being the Grandpa next door.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings (William, Evelyn, Olive, Howard, Amelia, and Clifford); loving wife; daughter, Kathleen Hoskisson Hunt; son-in-law, LeGrand Hunt; son, James C. Hoskisson; daughter-in-law, Jillian Marie Wallace; and grandchildren, Anne and Russell. He will be missed by his sister, Mary Justesen; brother, Kenneth (Virginia); sons, Robert Hoskisson (Kathy) and Bruce Hoskisson (Alison) and their families, including 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
