Cleone Hill Lecheminant Nelson

July 17, 1932 — June 28, 2023

Cleone Hill LeCheminant Nelson, age 90, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away on June 28, 2023, in Taylorsville City, Utah.
Cleone was born on July 17, 1932, into the home of Wilford Davis and Edith Esther Hill LeCheminant in Los Angeles, California. Her father was a mortician and the family lived above the mortuary on Venice Boulevard. She attended Los Angeles City Schools through the 10th grade, then moved with her family to St George, Utah. She graduated from Dixie High School at age 16 and went on to attend Dixie College for two years then continued her education at Brigham Young University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in May of 1954. It was at BYU where she met and fell in love with O. Glade Nelson. The two were married in the St George Temple on August 20, 1953, and had their first daughter (Patricia) just a few days before graduation.
Cleone enjoyed music and drama. She played the flute in the Dixie High Band and had leading roles in school and church dramatic productions. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests including ceramics, oil painting, sewing, quilting, knitting, and cooking. Cleone taught school full-time and substituted for many years.
Glade and Cleone were both life-long active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held a variety of leadership and support positions. They were well known and appreciated by their neighbors for their willingness to serve, to help and encourage learning.
After retirement, Glade and Cleone went on to serve together as missionaries in the Honduras-Belize Mission, Stockholm Sweden Temple, and the Nauvoo Temple. They felt called to “hallowed places” and openly expressed their sincere gratitude to our Savior and Our Heavenly Father for those experiences. Cleone served throughout her life including many years of temple service with her husband Glade.
Cleone was preceded in death by Glade, her husband of 69 years and is survived by their six children: Patricia (Kim) Simmons of Salem, Utah; David (Debbra) of Spokane Valley, Washington; Steven (Susan) of Evanston, Wyoming; Janet (David) Christensen of Boise, Idaho; Laura (Trent) Passey of West Valley City, Utah; Paul (Sylvia) of West Valley City, Utah; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family expresses their immense gratitude to their parents, Glade and Cleone, for their love and many sacrifices they made on their behalf. Life wasn’t always easy with some hard times and fun times but they always made it through them together.
