Cleston Ray Messick, age 61, passed away peacefully in his home, March 8, 2009 after a 7-year battle with cancer.
Cleston was the oldest of six born July 1, 1947 to Ray and Diantha Messick in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He served faithfully in the Eastern States LDS Mission, and attended Ricks College where he met his eternal sweetheart, Linda Frandsen. They were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on January 30, 1970. Together they raised a family of four sons and two daughters.
School and learning came naturally to him and he received degrees at Ricks, BYU, and a PhD at the University of Idaho. He was always a resource for knowledge. He started his career teaching school, became an engineer in semiconductors, and fulfilled his last position as a Rocket Systems Engineer. On assignment, he worked and served the people in the Philippines for almost 2 years, strengthening both the company and the Filipino people whom he loved.
His life was dedicated to service, willing to take in anyone who he felt was in need. A faithful member of the LDS church, he served in various church callings, his favorite being with the children. He was always planning for life and sought to provide his family with the best opportunities. But above all his many accomplishments, his truest joy and passion was his family, especially the grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; children, Troy (Manuela), Blair, Theron (Jamie), Lane (Casi), Melanie (Jesse), Tiffany; 8 grandchildren; mother; 3 brothers; 1 sister; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and 1 brother.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 13, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Roseboro Chapel, 1880 East 9800 South in Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may visit Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services.
