Dan Brian Olson, 66, of Kamas, Utah, died unexpectedly on June 27, 2025, in the town he considered home. Born on May 13, 1959, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dan led a life characterized by quiet strength, deep loyalty, and a fierce devotion to his family.
He worked for many years as a Precious Metals Operator A at Rio Tinto, where he was known for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and dependability. Dan was not one to seek the spotlight, but his dedication spoke volumes. He built a life rooted in resilience, always doing what was necessary for his children, for his siblings, and for those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Lee Olson and Donna May Hardy. Dan is survived by his siblings: Steven Olson, Jeanette Olson Lee, Sheri Olson Clark, Kristy Olson Housworth, and Randy Olson. He was a beloved brother whose presence, humor, and fierce protectiveness will be deeply missed.
Dan was the father of Monica Olson-Carter and her husband Ryan Carter; Joshua Brian Kahn and his wife Gena Kahn; Danny Olson and his wife Lacie Olson. He cared deeply for his children and held hopes for their happiness and peace throughout their lives.
He was a cherished grandfather to Chris, Brittny, Magen, Kelsie, Jason, Nickolas, Dakota, Willow, Taylor, Ava, Nova, Kylee, Emily and great-grandfather to Kyrin, Mylah, Jaxson, and Damon. His love for them ran deep and true.
Dan deeply appreciated the natural world and all its wonders. He loved cars, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, nature, rock hunting, and exploring the mysteries of the universe. One of his favorite places to visit was Rifle Falls, where he found peace and joy amidst the beauty of the outdoors.
People admired Dan for his charm and compassion. He had a heart of gold and a way of making others feel safe simply by being close to him. He was both tough and tender, full of dry wit and fierce loyalty. One of his favorite sayings, delivered with a grin, was: “We bad.”
To know Dan was to love him. He was a steady presence in an uncertain world, and though his absence leaves an ache we can't fully express, we're grateful for every moment we shared.
