Dauna Uretta Colfelt Sandmire

September 9, 1929 — November 10, 2022

Dauna Uretta Colfelt Sandmire passed away November 10, 2022 at the age of 93. She was the second daughter born to Henry R. Colfelt and Ora Allred on September 9, 1929 in American Falls, ID.
Being raised in a musical family, Dauna and her sisters sang and performed together from an early age.  She was also an accomplished pianist.
Dauna was a gifted athlete. She was a lifeguard and excelled at softball, even being scouted to play professionally. Instead, she chose to serve The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a missionary in New England from 1953-1954.
In 1955 she moved to Northern California and married James Sandmire Jr., later divorced.
In 1967, she moved with her mother Ora, along with sisters Betty and Jackie to Cedar City, Utah.
In 1969 she met and married William Baird, which opened a new chapter in her life.
Her working career included being a printing press operator, a proof reader of written works, secretary, a radio station announcer and a newspaper column author. With a towering intellect, she was admired and highly respected by all who had the privilege of working with her.
Her passions were studying and teaching the principles of the Gospel. Dauna was a beloved Sunday School teacher, and she had a special place in her heart for the youth.
Dauna was dearly loved and will be missed by so many who were touched by her life, and who have called her Mother.
Throughout her life, she was focused on serving others- as a friend, teacher, mentor and counselor.  She lived a life of selfless service to all.
Many relied upon her as a trusted friend, always listening and advising with sound wisdom and positive encouragement.
While suffering for many years with severe Alzheimer’s Dementia she continued to display the love, patience, grace and humor which were the defining qualities with which she will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jaqueline Adair, Grandson Benjamin Sandmire and Great Grand Daughter Beverley Baker.
She is survived by her sister Betty Lynch (Truman) of South Jordan, UT, daughter Kimberly Jones (Mike) of Ventura CA, and son James Sandmire (Shauna) of Bluffdale UT.
Special thanks to all of those at Carrington Court that cared for our mother and treated her with kindness and love.
