David Myles Burke

Jan 31, 1961 — Oct 26, 2026

David Myles Burke, 65, of West Valley City, Utah, passed into eternal life at his home on October 26, 2026. He was born January 30, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, the sixth of seven children born to Myles Roy and Dolores Marie (née Gautcher) Burke, now deceased.

David grew up on the South Side of Chicago and attended St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic School to 2nd grade when the family moved to Woodridge, Illinois. He graduated from Goodrich Elementary School and then Downers Grove South High School.

In the 80's when family began migrating west from Chicago, Dave, wanting to be close to family, followed and made Utah his home.

He worked in the maintenance field and was a meticulous, dedicated, and loyal employee. As was true to his quiet nature, he thrived in the behind-the-scenes jobs where he could focus on the task at hand. He was a well-respected member of the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center staff and Salt Lake Community College staff for many years.

David was a sensitive and gentle soul with an unassuming heart. He was a man of simple tastes who never tried to impress others for recognition or look for favors or attention. David cared deeply for his family and was a trusted confidant. He never missed a birthday or holiday. He had an amazing recollection of past family traditions and events and of his siblings' individual quirky tendencies which he loved to joke about.

A lifelong sports fan David had an excellent knowledge of sports and watched most major sporting events, always providing a funny analysis of the game or players. He never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams, the Chicago White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks. Dave was a true patriot, a conservative who had a great love for our country and had a hard time understanding those that didn't. He was a resilient soul who faced his life's complex storms with a quiet endurance. Due to his illness, anxiety, and the debilitating nature of his infirmities, he sought a life of solitude in the comfort of his home and enjoyed the relationships he had with his son and his siblings. In his later years he also took solace in his relationship with his Creator.

Though his journey in this life was often difficult, especially as his health declined, he never lost his capacity for kindness or humor. David is reunited in eternal life with his parents Myles (2026) and Dolores Burke (2022), his brother Michael Burke (2023), and his nephew Sean Burke (2016). He is survived by his son, Myles David Burke of Sandy, UT; brothers and sisters Sharon (Bruce) Evans of Prescott Valley, AZ; Claudia Blaz of Gilbert, AZ; Thomas (Sharon Lee) Burke of San Diego, CA; Carolyn Burke of Taylorsville, UT; and James (Kathryn) Burke of South Jordan, UT; twelve nieces and nephews; and eight grand nieces and nephews; his uncle Dr. Gene (Nancy) Burke of Elm Grove, WI; and his aunt Joan Novak of Sun Lakes, AZ; as well as many cousins. Rest in peace, sweet brother. We already miss you so much!
