David Laurence Hancock

December 10, 1960 — May 8, 2026

Our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, David Laurence Hancock, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Salt Lake City from complications following a stroke. Dave was born on December 10, 1960, in Murray, Utah, to parents John Morris and Eileen (Loertscher) Hancock. He was raised in Kearns and served an LDS mission to Scotland and Northern Ireland. He met Susan Crane at a dance (he was a phenomenal dancer) the day after he returned home, and they were married two years later in the Salt Lake temple. Dave joined the Air Force in 1985 and served for four years as a mobile air traffic control radar technician. He later continued his career working for the Air Force as a high-speed photographer on the UTTR.

Dave loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved camping and participating in mountain man rendezvous. Playing music, especially bluegrass, with friends and family was one of his greatest joys. His chosen instruments were banjo, guitar, and mandolin. His passion for music was surpassed only by his love of food, especially his wife’s cooking, but he also enjoyed new culinary experiences.

Above all, Dave loved his family. He was the best husband and dad, and everyone’s favorite uncle, whether or not they were related by blood. Dave is survived by his wife, Susan, sons Matthew, Elijah, and Sam, sister Babette Tali (Saia), brothers Lee (Krystine), Paul, and Matthew, and many loving nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eileen, and brother Robert.

The family would like to thank Dugway EMS, the ER staff at Mountain West Hospital, the AirMed crew, and the NCCU staff at the University of Utah, especially nurse Koula and Dr. Brown, for their compassion in caring for our Dave.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Copper Canyon LDS Ward, 1717 N. Berra Blvd. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m.

Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
