David Leon Hansen returned to his Heavenly Father on July 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He left behind a legacy of faith, service, and dedication. Born on August 31, 1954, David lived a life marked by compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
David served a faithful mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Winnipeg, Canada, where his love for the gospel deepened and his lifelong desire to serve others was strengthened. Upon returning, he married his soulmate, Gail Hansen, and became a devoted father to their five children.
David placed a high value on education and perseverance—values he consistently instilled in his children. He pursued his own education by earning two associate degrees, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and a master’s degree in special education, which led to his published thesis—an accomplishment that reflected his passion for learning and advocacy. He dedicated his professional life to teaching special education, where his patience, kindness, and belief in the potential of every child touched countless lives.
Throughout his life, David served in many church callings, including the bishopric, Elder's Quorum Presidency, and Sunday School Presidency. Though he held numerous leadership roles, he found his greatest joy in working with the youth. His sincere love, listening ear, and steady encouragement made a lasting impact.
David Leon Hansen leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication. He is survived by his children: Crystal Young (Travis), Jeffery Hansen (Kimberly), Precindia Parks (Kenneth), Jacob Hansen (Heidi), and Tyler Hansen, as well as his 12 grandchildren: Bree Anna, Curtis, Naomi, Nyla, Kathryn, Cadence, Preston, Natalie, Caitlynn, Calvin, Saralynn, and Eve. He is also survived by his siblings: Necia, Dean, Jim, Rex, and Don. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Gail, and his parents, Alvin and Norma Hansen.
