David Lynn Ingebritson

May 11, 1950 — August 22, 2022

David Lynn Ingebritson, 72, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at Pheasant Run Alzheimer’s Care Center in South Jordan, Utah. A family service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
David was born on May 11, 1950, in Forest City, Iowa. He grew up in Lake Mills, Iowa, with his parents, Marion and Elaine Ingebritson, and his younger brothers, Steven and Robert. He enjoyed playing baseball and helping his dad on his milk route. David graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1968. He attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, from 1968-1970.  He then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he earned a B.A. in Elementary Education and graduated in 1975. During his college years, David served in the United States Army from 1972-74, serving at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland as well as in Tel Aviv, Israel. He earned a coaching degree from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota, in 1975-76. He was employed at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, Minnesota, in the Security Department from 1977-79. He moved to the Admissions Department at Inver Hills Community College in Inver Hills, Minnesota, from 1979-1980. He returned to the Minnesota Zoo in 1980 to work in the Employee Relations Department until moving to the State of Minnesota offices in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1989. He continued working in Employee Relations for the State of Minnesota in 1989, returning to the Minnesota Zoo for a brief time in 1990, then back to the State of Minnesota offices in late 1990. He worked in the State of Minnesota Management and Budget Department as a finance officer starting in 1993 until his retirement in 2012.
David married Barbara Jean Lenthe on December 20, 1975, in Moorhead, Minnesota, after meeting during college. Their son Jacob David was born on January 31, 1980, and their daughter, Cally Anne, was born on July 1, 1983. David was a dedicated father, supporting and coaching his children in soccer, baseball/softball, basketball and volleyball. He attended every school activity, sports game and music concert in which his children were participating. David loved to be wherever his children were, traveling far and wide to be with them when they were grown. He enjoyed golf, jogging, watching sports, reading and spending time with family and friends. He volunteered at a therapeutic horse ranch, a local food bank and the Minnesota Zoo when retired. Dave and Barb enjoyed traveling to new places, including Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, Colombia, Bermuda and Alaska. They spent winters on Anna Maria Island, Florida, and in Fountain Hills, Arizona, with summers at the cabin on Pelican Lake, Minnesota. They traveled often to see their grandchildren, eventually moving to Sandy, Utah, to be near them. A lifetime highlight was making a hole-in-one in 2018 while wintering in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Jacob and daughter-in-law, Annie; daughter, Cally; four grandchildren: Myah, Tobin, Edmond and Otis; and brothers Steven and Robert. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. We also wish to thank the staffs of Pheasant Run Alzheimer’s Care Center and Inspiration Hospice for the loving support they provided Dave; we are forever grateful that he was in their exceptional care.
David will be remembered as a kind, steadfast, and honorable man with an amazing smile and a wry sense of humor. He dearly loved his family and friends and that love was returned tenfold.
