David Sterling Peck
1943 – 2022
West Valley, Utah — Bet you a buck, on October 2, 2022, there was a celebration in Heaven (in true “Peck” fashion) when David Sterling Peck danced his way back from this life to reunite with family and friends, especially his parents, Russell and Norma Peck; brothers, Joe Peck and Curtis Peck; sister, Danelle Peck Plotnick; nephew, Seth Shaffer; and his much loved and missed grandson, Stetson Peck.
Dave, as he was known to most, was born on August 26, 1943 to Russell and Norma Peck. He often shared stories of the good times he had growing up with his Peck cousins hunting and “goin’ around the town,” causing a little mischief. On February 20, 1961, he married his beautiful wife and best friend, Darlene Carter, whom he affectionately called “Derlin.” For over 61 years, they forged a life together that centered on family and friends, and was undeniably based on an immeasurable amount of love and laughter. Over the years, they opened their hearts and homes to many, and taught us through their example to value friendships, love your family, work hard, treat people with kindness and respect, be honest, have integrity and to keep a positive attitude.
Dave was a simple man that loved listening to good music, dancing, making people laugh, playing cards, watching sports, attending Bingham HS football games, golfing on Sundays, hunting, pitching horseshoes, being a member of the F.O.E and raising his chickens. A painter by trade, Dave worked for Salt Lake County for over 25 years striping (not to be confused with stripping) roads and supervising work crews. His undeniable skill for laying out and striping roads in the Salt Lake Valley led him to start his own successful company, Peck Striping. Dave was also very mechanically inclined and was known for his ability to fix and paint cars. He found great joy in restoring his 1953 Ford Customline alongside his son, David.
If asked, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He loved his wife and was so incredibly proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved creating special moments with the grandkids, making them laugh with silly sounds and facial expressions, gathering eggs, attending games and special events. Dave was a friend to everyone; wherever he went, people gravitated to him because of his huge heart and larger than life personality. His love for his family and friends will never be forgotten – we are eternally grateful for the time we’ve shared together and know that this is not the end, we have no doubt that we will see each other again.
Dad, thanks for taking such great care of your family and for helping create loving memories that will last a lifetime. We are extremely proud to be part of the Peck family and will never forget the impact you’ve had on our lives….we will always Love You More!
Dave is survived by his dear wife, Darlene; his children David (Christy) Peck, Gayle Earl, Christine (Clint) Straatman, Stacey (Adam) Cottle; 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; sisters Dixie (Marty) Shaffer, Lorna (Ron and the late Mickey Thompson) Brooks, and Stephanie Lanier.
