Dawn “Ouma” Muir passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, surrounded by her family who love her dearly. She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 29, 1935 and lived a remarkable 89 years, nearly reaching her 90th birthday.
Dawn came to the United States with her husband, the late Melvin Kenneth Muir, with whom she shared a loving marriage for more than 65 years. Their relationship was marked by deep devotion, quiet strength, and a lifelong commitment to one another.
Dawn was a talented artist who found so much joy in painting, gardening, and making crafts. Her beautiful paintings became a way of expressing love, gratitude, and friendship, which she generously shared freely with the many people who touched her life. Dawn and Ken spent hours tending to their magical garden, working together to make their yard an inviting, peaceful and beautiful place for all to enjoy.
Dawn was a steady and caring presence for so many in her neighborhood and broader community. She welcomed all into her heart and her home, giving them anything she could to help. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable and special.
Dawn is survived by her sons and their wives Michael (Carmen) and Alan (Rachel) and her grandchildren Alexander, Isabella, and MaKenna. Her legacy lives on in them and in the many people whose lives she touched with her warmth, creativity, and generosity. She will be missed by so many, and her memory will continue to inspire us all.
