Dean Angus Clark

Dean Angus Clark passed away quietly on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born in Ivins, Idaho on April 16, 1927 to Vernon J. Clark and Bessie Banks Clark, but grew up in Salt Lake City with siblings J, MarJean, and Max.

Dean graduated from West High School and the University of Utah.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Sixty years ago he established his own automobile business – Dean Clark Used Cars and continued to work there until his death.

Dean married Marion Birkinshaw Clark on August 18, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple and they have four wonderful children – Jeffrey (Mary), Cheryl (Datus) Thorup, Bradley (Nicole) and Gary (Lisa).  They are also blessed with fourteen grandchildren – Aaron, Alyssa, Kallie, Emily, Brittany, Cameron, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Mikayla, Christian, Sydney, Ethan, Conner and Carson.  These special grandchildren will always remember their Grandpa's encouragement to work hard, save their money, exercise faith in Christ and develop tenacity.  He also emphasized the study and memorization of scripture as well as the Articles of Faith.

Dean was a devout member of the LDS church and served a mission in Brazil as a young man and in his senior years served two additional missions with his wife to Louisiana and the Recife, Brazil Temple.  Other callings in the church included serving in the Bishopric, ward mission leader, Young Men's leader,   Primary teacher and Article of Faith coordinator.

Dean was a real people person who loved to talk to family, friends, and even strangers, especially on airplanes and other travel excursions.  He often used the telephone to talk with close family and friends.  Dean had several favorite sayings he liked to quote which were:  "Never Give Up"; "Every day in every way I will be better and better"; "Fix it up, Wear it out, Make it do or do without".  He loved foot rubs, back scratches, head butts, helping people with car problems and talking to anyone who could speak the Portuguese language.

Dean will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the East Mill Creek 2nd Ward, 3750 South Hillside Lane (2600 East), where friends may visit with the family on Sunday evening at the church from 7:00pm to 8:30pm and also on Monday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to services. Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to the LDS Church Missionary or Education Funds.

Special Appreciation goes to the amazing medical teams at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital that helped treat Dean during his three year fight with cancer.
