Deborah Jo Naylor Smith passed away March 1, 2015 at the age of 61 in the presence of family, following a long battle from the effects of a stroke. She was a loving, kind, patient wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life.
Born to Gerald and Cynthia Naylor in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in Ogden, Utah. She attended Weber High School class of '71, Weber State College and BYU. Married to Douglas G. Smith in 1975. Survived by her husband, Douglas Smith, her four children; McKell, Aaron (Marissa Herd), Alex (Deborah Feil), McKensie (Matt) Wilkinson. Preceded in death by her son, Garrett (Molly Williams). Beloved grandmother to Allyson, Easton, Cooper, Drake, Oliver, G. Covey, Navy, Henry and Franklin. Survived also by her parents and siblings; Marc (Linda) Naylor, Shaunna (Scott) Rhoades, Garth (Pam) Naylor, and Heather Kirby.
She was an active member of the East Millcreek 1st ward and served in many capacities of giving. She worked 24 years as a travel agent and in call center work at Marriott and C3 Customer Contact Channels. She was well liked by her work colleagues. She was a dedicated volunteer for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games.
She enjoyed worldwide travel, theater, was an avid reader, loved swimming and cooking; but most of all loved adventures with her grandchildren. She regularly attended and found pleasure in bringing the ladies of the ward to the many surrounding temples. Sunday dinners, birthday celebrations and holiday traditions were always made special with Debbie and will be missed. The title "Mom" meant the most to her. She delighted in quietly serving and lifting others burdens. She always expressed gratitude for the smallest acts of kindness.
The family wishes to thank the many healthcare providers and caring staff at Intermountain Medical Center, Promise Hospital and Woodland Park Care Center. We express gratitude to the many friends and family who gave so much of their own time with visits, prayers, and other acts of kindness, which brightened her day and brought a smile to her face.
A celebration of Debbie's life will be held at 11:00am on Friday March 6, 2015 at the East Millcreek First Ward, 2702 East Evergreen Ave (3435 South). Friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Friday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to services.
