Dennis Glen Nelson

October 20, 1935 — November 18, 2022

Dennis Glen Nelson passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, November 18, 2022 in South Jordan, Utah. He was 87 years old. Dennis was born on 20 October 1935 in Tooele, Utah to Glenn Fredrick Nelson (1913-1967) and Mildred Elvira Ainsworth (1918-1962).  His parents divorced when he was quite young, so Dennis was raised mostly by his mother, but he spent a lot of time with his grandparents and a few foster families during his school years.
Dennis worked in the aviation industry as an aircraft mechanic. He was well known to many as a friend and colleague at the Salt Lake International Airport over the course of a career which spanned decades.   He served as the Treasurer of the Airport Employees Credit Union for many years.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and he enjoyed serving as Ward Clerk for many years.  He also enjoyed various volunteer opportunities, such as working as a driver during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah, helping at the Kearns Senior Center, delivering Meals on Wheels, and preparing materials for the Salt Lake City Aging Services Expo functions.  He loved people, and he was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.  He always had a ready smile and a funny joke for all.
Dennis married Julene Ostrander in 1958, but they were later divorced.  He was the loving father of four children – Diana (Kevin) Knight of Bend, OR; Christopher Nelson of Pleasant Grove, UT; Jeffrey (Denise) Nelson of Palmer, AK; and Colleen (Terry) Hughes of West Jordan, UT.  Dennis married Ethel Vivian (Vicki) Hadley Warner in 1977, and Vicki’s son John (Jack) Warner of Arnold, MO joined the family. Dennis was preceded in death by Vicki in 2020, and his one sister Donna Christensen in 2015. He has 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in his honor at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary.
