Denver C Harper

Lt Col Denver C Harper, 85, departed this earthly life on Friday morning, January 30, 2015, in Provo, Utah.  He was born in Pink Hill, North Carolina, on February 10, 1929, to Thurman Elvin and Alice (Davis) Harper.  From them he learned the value of hard work on the farm and a life of service.  He left home to attend Brigham Young University at the age of 16 and continued "loyal, strong and true" to the Cougars of BYU.  He and his eternal sweetheart, (Olive) Lucille Olsen, married in Cardston, Alberta temple on December 7, 1950.  He was dedicated in serving God and country.  At age 19, he was an LDS missionary in the Western States Mission, Denver, Colorado, and also in later years was a missionary with Lucille in Riverside, California. He served many years as Bishop, Branch President, High Councilor, and temple worker.  A true American patriot, he had a career with the US Army, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Today he is having a joyous reunion with his parents, 5 siblings, wife Lucille, son Richard Harper, daughter Nancy Harper, and great-granddaughter Mikayla Harper.

Denver married Janice (McGee) Wilbur on July 7, 2007, and they enjoyed many pleasant days in their 7+ years together.  Family who remain and will cherish fond memories of Denver are wife Jan, son Bruce (Terri) Harper and 3 daughters Karen (John) Rencher, Denise (Eric) Jelte, and Cheri (John) Noffz, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Jimmy Deaver, sister-in-law Hilda Harper, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 4407 Fortuna Way (3695 E), Salt Lake City.  Family will greet friends and acquaintances who wish to pay respects at a viewing Friday night, February 6, 2015, from 6-8 pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S 2300 E, Salt Lake City and again at the church Saturday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
